Summer School Teaching Staff 2026

Angela Young - Aberdeen, Scotland

Angela Young was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, surrounded by music and dance, taking lessons from the age of 4 and later studying Music at Aberdeen University. Moving to London to work with the BBC, Angela quickly became involved playing for branch classes and went on to teach both adults’ and children’s classes for the RSCDS London Branch, including the London Demonstration Team. Relocating back to Scotland, Angela continued working with her Mum and the Airyhall Dancers. Most recently, she has been teaching for the St Andrews Branch.

In addition to teaching day and weekend schools in the UK and Europe, she has taught at the RSCDS Summer and Winter Schools, weekend schools in Toronto and Asilomar, and TAC and New Zealand Summer Schools.

Training teams for Festivals and Competitions across the UK, Angela has also choreographed displays for a variety of events and spaces, including London’s Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall. She has adjudicated at various festivals, including the Newcastle Festival in 2024 and 2025, and the Glasgow Music Festival in 2026.

As a musician, she has played regularly at the RSCDS Summer School in St Andrews since age 18 and has also served as a Director for the Music Courses. Most recently, Angela completed her term as RSCDS Membership Services Convenor and was proud to lead the team on the Society's centenary publication, RSCDS Book 53, in 2023.

Away from dancing, Angela is a Children’s Television Producer, having created animation series and arts specials, including ballet, proms, and Shakespeare productions for preschoolers!

Arthur McNair - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Arthur McNair began Scottish country dancing in the late 1990s and received his Teacher’s Certificate in 2004.

He teaches weekly classes in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and has led workshops throughout North America.

Arthur's first emphasis in his teaching is for all dancers to enjoy dancing at whatever level they can, with a secondary emphasis on the beauty that comes from dancing well with others. Arthur also plays the accordion with the Scottish dance band Highland Square.

 Fiona Miller - Lethbridge, Alberta

Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, Fiona learned to dance almost as soon as she could walk. Her Scottish Country dance enthusiast parents were her first teachers. Fiona trained at Dunfermline College in Physical Education and Health, and in 1978, she earned her dance teacher's certificate under the watchful eye of Miss Milligan.

Fiona and her husband, David, immigrated to Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1981 and have raised two children, Emma Claire and Keith, both of whom are Scottish country dancers.

As the founding teacher, Fiona has taught the social class, seniors, children, technique and the demonstration group for the Lethbridge Scottish Country Dance Club, which has now celebrated its 44th Anniversary.

Fiona has taught at Summer Schools, week-long summer camps, and weekend workshops throughout North America and the UK.  Fiona has tutored and mentored candidates to take their RSCDS Teachers’ Certification. More recently, she has been a Trainer and Moderator for the CTI program.

In her other life, Fiona retired from teaching "English As A Second Language" (ESL) to Middle-School-aged refugee children and is loving being a “Nona” to her 4 grandchildren.

Fiona served for ten years on the Board of the TAC, including as the Chairman, and completed three years as Director of Summer Events.

In 2020, Fiona received the RSCDS “Scroll of Honour” for her continued work promoting SCD locally, nationally, and internationally. It is Fiona's philosophy that everyone should have fun dancing while learning a little bit about Scottish culture.

 David Queen - Southport, England

David started dancing at age 5 and qualified as a Scottish country dance teacher in 1993. He teaches branch classes at Ribble Valley RSCDS in the Northwest of England and at workshops around the UK. He has also taught at the RSCDS Summer and Winter Schools, New Zealand Summer School, TAC, Spring Fling, and has been Depute Director of St Andrews Summer School. David has also been fortunate to teach in diverse locations, including Japan, Russia, the USA, Canada, and across Europe.

David enjoys promoting good technique and derives great satisfaction from seeing dances performed to a high standard. His classes aim to help dancers of all abilities achieve their personal best whilst ensuring they have fun!

Having been made so very welcome in Canada and the USA in recent years, David is especially looking forward to returning to teach at TAC and renewing friendships.
