65 Dances Celebrating TAC’s 65th Anniversary in 2023

TAC is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2023. It seems appropriate to share a selection of dances to highlight the creativity of the many dancers, teachers, musicians, and devisors whose talents have supported and celebrated our organization.

These 65 dances are a small selection of the many possible choices, but we hope they will provide teachers and organizers with ideas for classes and dance programmes. A few of the dances are traditional Scottish Country dance favourites, but most were chosen to highlight people who have contributed so much to our dancing pleasure over the years.

It’s impossible to include every dance devised by our members or teachers from around the world who have attended and taught at the Teachers’ Conference Weekend and Summer School. Still, we hope this selection will encourage you to revisit some old favourites or look further to find other dances by these devisors.

We look forward to many celebrations next year: TAC’s founding 65 years ago, the 50th Summer School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and, of course, the Centenary of the RSCDS. We hope this list will be another way for us to celebrate together.

You can use these links to download an Excel spreadsheet with lists of the dances alphabetically, by tempo, and by devisor. The sources for the dances are also noted, and all of the dances can be found on the SCD DanceDatabase, though not all have videos. In addition, there is a PDF version.

We are reducing the amount of printed material in the registration packets to eliminate the high costs of printing booklets and dance cues. Your registration packet will have a single sheet showing the class and event schedules and small booklets for the two Ball programmes.

2022 Silent Auction at the Teachers' Conference Weekend and Summer school

Donations Wanted for In-Person Silent Auction!

As part of TCW and Summer School, we will be holding an in-person Silent Auction supporting TAC. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will be used to help cover the expenses of Summer School and to help pay down the TAC's debts. We would be very grateful if you would consider donating an item(s) to the in-person Silent Auction held during the TCW Weekend and Summer School, July 22 to 31, 2022.

Silent Auction items could include hand-made items, gently used and vintage clothes, especially items appropriate for SCD (cleaned and in good condition, please!); novelties ranging from fun and quirky to fabulous; Scottish-themed dishes, scarves, books, artwork; and anything in between. Gift cards to places such as Tim Hortons, Starbucks, etc., would be popular too.

Are you crafty? Do you have a special skill that you could teach on Zoom? This could be anything from a craft (sewing, art or ??) or a baking lesson to a dance or music lesson, or "how to repair a ??"

In 2019 and 2021, specialty baking was a runaway hit -- any baking enthusiasts out there? You can also consider non-tangible items such as a dance or a tune devised for the event or someone special.

We have created an Auction Contribution Form to make it easy to donate your items. You can download the donation form here.

Use this link to download rules covering auction bidding.

Please complete the form with details of the item you plan to donate, so I know what you will be bringing to Calgary, and send your completed form to me by July 19, 2022, to allow time to prepare for the Auction. You can also use the form to donate money in lieu of an item to support TAC and Summer School.
