International visitors, including those arriving from the US, please note that all persons entering Canada by any form of transport require a valid passport.  Additional information can be found here.

Anyone entering Canada will need to download the ArriveCAN app to your smartphone before arrival in Canada.  All information must be enterd into the app with 72 hours of your arrival in Canada.  Up to date travel information in regard to COVID-19 can be found here.

A foreign national or alien entering Canada is required to present a passport and valid visa issued by a Canadian Consular Official, unless they are a citizen of a country eligible for the Visa Waiver Program, or are a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. or a citizen of Canada.  Visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to Canada MUST HAVE an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) in addition to a valid passport. Getting to Mount Royal University

The Calgary International airport is approximately 30 km from the Mount Royal campus.  A taxi fare will be approximately $70 in each direction.  Uber will be slightly less expensive.  Transportation for faculty is being taken care of by Calgary area dancers.  If there happens to be available space, they would be more than happy to take attendees at the same time.  We are also offering to coordinate contacts between those attendees that are arriving at the same time for ride sharing purposes.  For those who are interested please email  This email address is being protected from spambots. Accommodations and Parking

Accommodations for TCW and Summer School will be in the West Residence at Mount Royal University 200 Mt Royal Circle SW, Calgary, AB T3E 7P7

Each suite consists of four single bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a common kitchen/sitting area. Two of the bedrooms share a single bathroom. All suites include free wifi and some basic kitchen supplies: 4 plates, cups, forks and spoons, 2 pots, a spatula and a frying pan.  You might want to plan on bringing additional supplies such as drinking glasses or a kettle.

The university housing facilities do not provide hangers nor any toiletries. You will need to bring your own personal soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc. They do provide linens, a blanket, pillow, and towel for each guest. A light clean with linen change is provided once during your stay and linens and towels may be exchanged at the front desk as needed. Laundry rooms are equipped with smartphone-operated washers and dryers and are located in West Residences.  Residents and guests can use their unit key to access the laundry room.  The laundry room has a sitting room and television.  The machines are owned by Coinamatic and you can pay for your laundry through Coinamatic's mobile app.  For more information about the app, please review their website.   You will be able to wash clothes, however, detergent and fabric softener are not provided.

All rooms on campus are designated non-smoking.

Parking is complimentary if you are staying in Residence. Parking passes are provided at check-in. You will need to provide the licence plate number and name of the owner. You can park in any of the permit lots, with lots 1 & 2 being the closest to the Residence and Recreation Centre.

Parking for non-residents (still to be confirmed): The local committee has made arrangements for non-residents to purchase a low-cost parking permit at the Bethany Chapel parking lot located just north of campus - about a 6 minute walk to our dance venues.  The cost is $25 for the full time of TCW and/or Summer School.  A form needs to be completed and submitted to the church secretary in person with payment by debit or credit card only. The parking form, including details, can be downloaded here when available.

Please note that the pricing on this form is NOT what we are being charged.  A single $25 charge will cover all days of TCW and/or Summer School.

For non-residents attending TCW only, or the Summer School Weekend only, the daily rates for on-campus permits at Mt. Royal will be essentially the same as the charge for Bethany Church.  There is no charge to park on campus on Sundays.

Venues for Meals, Dance Classes, Evening Social Dances, and Banquet & Ball

The campus Recreation Centre will be the venue for dance classes, evening social dances, and the Ball. Classes will be held in Stanley Gym and in rooms U155 and U159. See the Class schedule and class descriptions for additional details.

All meals, except the banquets, will be served in the Recreation Centre Level 2. Please remember to wear your conference ID.

Banquets for TCW and Summer School will be in Ross Glen Hall after which we will walk to Stanley Gym for the ball.

• TAC Area Representatives Meeting

The TAC Area Reps Meeting will be held online on Sunday July 17th at 4PM New York time via Zoom.

• TAC Annual General Meeting
  The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for SCD teachers who are TAC Members will be held in Room I-115 Jenkins Theatre, Level 1 of the Recreation Centre, on Saturday, July 27th.

• TACSound and TACBooks
  

The two TAC Stores, TACSound and TACBooks, will have a large stock of items at the Summer Events, but it is not feasible to bring the entire inventory. If you know of items you particularly wish to purchase, place an order ahead of time through sound.tac-rscds.org/ or books.tac-rscds.org/

• The Scottish Shoppe

The Scottish Shoppe will be on campus from July 27-30 and will have an assortment of dance shoes, gifts and highland wear. If you know of items you particularly wish to purchase, place an order ahead of time through their website.

Local Climate

Summer (May–August) in Calgary is generally mild and dry.  Check this website for general information on Calgary Summer weather.  Information will be updated as we get closer to the start of Summer Events.

Calgary is a semi-arid climate and as such has a very low humidity.  We recommend that you drink lots of water, as your skin and sinuses will dry out.  You may also want to bring a moisturizing lotion and a lip balm to help with the drying effect on your skin.

Calgary's elevation is 1,045m/3,428ft.  Although the elevation is not high enough to cause altitude sickness, you may feel some minor effects (shortness of breath, headache, nausea), especially if you are coming from an area that is at sea level.  Acclimatization usually takes a day or two.  To combat these effects, and until you become acclimatized, we recommend that you drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and smoking, get plenty of rest and avoid strenous exercise.  For further information, please have a look at this Alberta Health website.  Also, please let a committee member know if you are experiencing symptoms and they will arrange to get you to a health care professional.

Airport Hotels

Do you just need a hotel for one night before you catch a flight home? Then perhaps a hotel near the airport would be what you would like; one with shuttle service to the airport.

Acclaim Hotel – Has rooftop jetted spas also. Nice for tired feet.

Sheraton Cavalier Hotel – There are restaurants in the hotel but The Cattle Baron, a fabulous Calgary steak house serving Alberta beef is just a short walk away.

There is also a large outlet mall north of the airport called Cross Iron Mills should you need to do a little shopping.

Hotels close to public transit access

Would you like a hotel with good public transit access?

There are several hotels in a little cluster near our other university, University of Calgary. They are all right across the street from the Light Rail Transit train line that would take you to downtown Calgary and the zoo. They are also right by a main street that will take you straight west out of Calgary and onto the TransCanada Highway to Banff and Lake Louise.

Would you like accommodation at a mountain lodge that you don’t have to hike into? Try Engadine Lodge in the Spray Valley Provincial Park. A 2 hour drive west and south of Calgary. Banff & Canmore

There are many hotels in Banff and many can be accessed through The Banff Hotel Guide.  There are also links on this page for hotels in Canmore, Lake Louise and Jasper.

While there are many accommodation options right in Banff National Park these may get booked up quickly. If you are having trouble finding a room in Banff then try looking in Canmore, AB. It is right outside the park gates and you can drive to Banff from there in 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can ride a bus into Banff from Canmore or rent a bike and peddle your way in!

Transportation Options to Banff

Calgary to Banff: Banff Airporter

The Banff Airporter is a dedicated shuttle with almost a dozen trips per day between Calgary, Banff and Canmore. The Banff Airporter use 24 seat luxury coaches, complete with USB ports, leather seats, overhead lighting, air controls and a water bottle refill station. You can only catch it at the Calgary Airport, however they are able to drop off (or pick up) at any home or hotel in Banff. In Canmore it only stops at the Coast Canmore Hotel. Automatic changes to booking time in case of flight delays. Schedule is online.

Calgary to Banff: Brewster Express

125 years of service providing travel experience, connecting Calgary to Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis, Lake Louise and Jasper. Calgary to Banff: The Banff Express

The Banff Express runs between Calgary and Canmore/Banff that runs twice a day to/from. Schedule is online. In Calgary they pick up passengers downtown at Eau Claire, or the Foothills Hospital, and in Banff at the Heritage Train Station. The stop in Canmore is at the Canmore Visitor Information Centre. Their shuttles have air conditioning, seat belts, and WiFi.
