Two Wednesday afternoon tours have been planned by the local Calgary Hospitality Committee.  We have extended the deadline for the Distillery tour until Monday, July 22nd, and can take reservations for the Studio Bell tour until it fills, or until July 30th, whichever occurs first.

Wednesday Afternoon, July 31, 2019 Tasting of Local Gins

Rocky Mountain Wine, Spirits and Beer

https://rockymountainwinespiritsbeer.com/

Just like Scotland, Alberta has gin distilleries popping up all over the province.

We will meet you at residence at Mount Royal University at 1:15 pm and travel by charter bus to Rocky Mountain Wine, Spirits and Beer.  There we will meet our knowledgeable hosts for an afternoon of tasting local gins.  Along with the gin, some light bites will be included.  It is not meant to be a full lunch/dinner but includes charcuterie boards, baguette, gluten free crackers and a sweet treat to finish off the tasting.   Following the tasting, there will be ample time for you to shop in the attached liquor store for your favourites!

We will then all board the bus at 4:00 pm to travel back to Mount Royal University with our return there planned for 4:30 pm.

Cost for this tour will be $50 CAD and that will include transportation, gin tasting and food.  Space is limited to 16 people for the tasting, though we will maintain a waiting list should this tour fully subscribe.  Reservations will be taken until Monday, July 22nd      Click here to register for the Distillery Tour

Wednesday Afternoon, July 31, 2019 Tour of Studio Bell

Studio Bell, Home of the National Music Centre

www.studiobell.ca

Explore five floors of interactive, all-ages exhibitions that tell the stories of music in Canada.  Discover Canadian artists, hear new sounds, try your hand at playing instruments and check out the memorabilia and artifacts from three Canadian Music Halls of Fame.  Don’t miss hearing the Kimball Theatre Organ, one of the largest artifacts in the collection.  Manufactured in 1924, the theatre organ was used in accompaniment of silent films.

We will meet you at residence at Mount Royal University at 12:45 pm and travel by charter bus to Studio Bell in downtown Calgary.  There we will meet our knowledgeable, on-site tour guides for a 1 hour guided tour of the music centre.  At the end of the tour you will have a couple of options.  You can visit those portions of the Centre that you would like to spend more time in and catch the 3 pm demonstration of the Kimball Theatre Organ.  You can cross the street to the iconic King Eddy Hotel for a cool drink in the lounge, or you can go around the block and take a look at our brand-new Downtown Library.  Architectural Digest listed it as one of the 12 most anticipated buildings of 2018.

We will then all meet back in the front of Studio Bell at 3:45 pm to travel back to Mount Royal University with our return there planned for 4:30 pm.

Cost for this tour will be $30 CAD and that will include transportation, entrance to and the tour cost in Studio Bell.  Reservations are limited to 45 people.  Should the tour not fill to capacity, we can offer space on the bus for those who would like to visit downtown Calgary.  Cost for bus tickets-only will be $6 round trip, and can be paid for at Summer School.  Reservations for the tour will be taken until July 30th or until all reservations are takenClick here to register for the Studio Bell Tour
