TEACHER CANDIDATE CLASS INFORMATION
QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Teacher's Certificate:
- An applicant, who must be over 20 years of age at the date of
the examination, must be a member of the society and have passed the
Preliminary Test for the Teacher's Certificate. This Preliminary
Test Pass must be produced at the examination.
- Except in exceptional circumstances, an applicant may not take
the Teacher's Certificate examination within two years of passing
the Preliminary Test. (Applications for special consideration must
be submitted to the Examinations in Scotland.) It is important that
an applicant, in the intervening period, regularly attend an
advanced or general class; attendance at several workshops or
courses.
- An applicant should gain, where possible under the guidance of
an experienced and fully qualified teacher of Scottish Country
Dancing, experience in teaching in Branches, affiliated groups,
schools, clubs, or other organizations. The applicant will be
required to supply details of the number of hours of teaching and
type of classes taught since passing the Preliminary Test.
- When applying for the course, an applicant must arrange for a
confidential statement
of teaching ability and experience to be provided by someone
knowledgeable in Scottish Country Dance, who has seen the applicant
teach dancing. This statement must be sent by the referee to the TAC
North American Exam Coordinator (Deirdre MacCuish Bark)
- An applicant must have an accurate knowledge of steps and
formations in Scottish Country Dance and must know the
prescribed
dances BEFORE attending the course of training for the Teacher's
Certificate examination.
